A useful feature introduced in SongShow Plus 8.0 introduced the capability to have multiple slide property themes within a single slide show. For additional details on the initial release of Slide Show Slide Properties Themes please refer to this article. Version 8.5 adds to that feature the capability to now have sub-themes. While sub-themes can be useful is specific cases, they require more thought and precision when used. For additional details on sub-themes please refer to this article.
Introduction
A slide show can contain one or more slide properties themes. These themes are used to specify the default styles used by each slide in a slide show. By default, a slide show has one theme and all slides use that theme. You can add additional themes then set one or more slide to use those themes. This lets you have slides within a single slide show that have different looks to them yet retaining the ability to adjust those looks using a common set of properties.
NOTE: While there is no programmatic limit to the number of Slide Properties Themes that can be added, there is a practical one. If too many themes are used, both the management of them and the resources used can become a problem. There are a few instances noted where repeated editing of a slide show can cause numerous unnecessary themes to be created.
Locating the Slide Show Slide Properties Themes
To add a new slide property theme to a slide show, from within Slide Builder, select the menu command File > Add Theme. This will open the Slide Properties Themes window. To edit the current set of themes, select the menu command File > Edit Themes. This will also open the Slide Properties Themes window letting you make changes to any of the themes used by the slide show. There is no control to delete a theme.
Configuring the Slide Show Slide Properties Themes
To select a theme to be used by a slide, select the slide in the slide list, then select the menu command Slide > Theme. A submenu will open letting you select one of the existing themes, or you can add a new theme that will be used by the slide.
Potential issues with Slide Show Slide Properties Themes
As noted above, too many themes (or sub-themes) can be problematic as SSP has to process all themes to determine if and how they are applied if they exist. Repeated reuse, merging or copy/pasting inside the slide show can make this worse. Keeping the number of themes used properly managed will avoid these types of issues. Refer to this article for more details.
