Micheal W. Smith Christmas Concert

A couple of weekends ago, my wife and I attended the Micheal W. Smith Christmas concert. It was the first time we've seen him with an orchestra. It was fun to see him in that element. The team also included Melissa Doolittle from American Idol fame (along with another guy who's name escapes me now).

Apparently, the day before, the team was in the Seattle area. There was quite a snow storm which stalled one or more of their trucks, which prevented some of their gear from arriving in time, including their wardrobe. More than once they mentioned being distressed that they were performing in jeans. If they had just considered for a bit that they were in Boise, Idaho, they would have realized that no one would have known the difference had they not said anything. However, I did find it a bit odd when their conductor came out on stage wearing a sweater (rather than a tux), which then made sense after they explained the situation.

It turns out that their conductor is quite the pianist and played for a couple of the pieces. The American Idol guests were also fantastic.

We almost passed on this one -- I'm glad we didn't.

I haven't seen MWS since the 80's and the Micheal W. Smith Project CD.

Michael W. Smith Project

I kinda thought he had a Duran Duran sound back then.
