SongShow Plus has several configuration settings that control how SongShow Plus behaves, where SongShow Plus data comes from or goes to and other relevant settings.
SongShow Plus Media Files Location
The Media Files Location configuration will determine where the media files are stored for use with SongShow Plus. By default this path is:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\R-Technics\SongShow Plus
If the end user wants to store files in a different location (non-OS drive or network drive) they can change this location. In some cases, during SSP updates or system repairs, a user may simply need to adjust the path again to point to the existing media location.
Accessing this configuration setting can be done in 2 ways - both require administrator rights.
- From Windows -- Start > Programs > SongShow Plus X.x > Configuration > Media Files Location
- From SongShow Plus -- Toolbar > Settings > Media Files Location...
Once in the SongShow Plus Media Files Location utility, there are instructions available for the user to Move Existing, Use Existing, or Create New Media Files Location.
Notes About Using a Network Location
While it is possible to locate a shared SongShow Plus media files folder on a LAN (Local Area Network) there are a few things to keep in mind:
- The key to good behavior in SongShow Plus will be sufficient network bandwidth. Use a hard-wired gigabit network adapter in all connected machines. Accessing this over the wireless network can be especially problematic. If there is latency across the network it can affect several things in SSP.
- Some media files may be problematic, particularly large or high bit rate videos. They may play inconsistently or not at all.
- File searches within SSP may take longer.
- File indexing in SSP may take longer
- Network interruption will make content inaccessible.
- There are a few things to be aware of when connecting to a network machine.
- Access
- You should be able to find your target machine on the network ASSUMING that the machine is visible and proper rights have been granted for the host user/machine.
- All connected users need to have full read/write access to the target location.
- Connecting
- This can be connected using a UNC path to the target directly. This is a \\servername\folder type of path.
- This can be connected via a shortcut established on the local machine. This would typically be located in the "This PC" section.
- Access
Training Videos - A video walk-through of this process is available. Locate the video on the training page - File Management > Relocating SSP Media Files
Depending on your current subscription level, you can go to the GoFishMedia website training page and log in with the same Customer ID and password that you use to log in to the SongShow Plus site or activate SongShow Plus. Review this article for more details.
