Song Management - edit, delete or hide songs

Songs use is an integral part of SongShow Plus and can be used to display song lyrics in a variety of configurations. The ability to edit, delete or in some cases hide songs (Stock ones) is important for good housekeeping of your song library.  To find out how many songs you have available view this article.

Created/Imported Songs

Any of the songs that you create manually, import via SongSelect and other tools or copy from the Stock databases can be edited and/or deleted. 

To edit songs:

1. Open SongShow Plus.
2. Locate the Media Files panel and select the Songs tab.
3. From this panel you can browse or search for the song you want to edit.
4. click to select the desired song then right click for the menu.
5. Select Edit Song.
6. Once in the Edit dialog, make the desired changes.
7. Click Save and Close.

To delete songs:

1. Open SongShow Plus.
2. Locate the Media Files panel and select the Songs tab.
3. From this panel you can browse or search for the song you want to edit.
4. click to select the desired song then right click for the menu.
5. Select Delete Song.
6. When prompted confirm the song file deletion.
7. The song will be removed from the song list.

NOTE: if you are doing extensive house cleaning or editing of songs it is a good idea to reindex the database when you are done.

1. Open SongShow Plus.
2. From the main toolbar select Tools > Database Utilities >SongShow Plus >Rebuild Indexes...
3. When prompted confirm the song indexing by clicking Yes.

Stock Songs

There are two stock databases of songs that are available to SongShow Plus users, the Stock Hymns Database and the Christmas Carols Database. View article FAQ15 for more details.

The stock song databases cannot be edited or deleted. 

If the user wants to edit a stock song, it must be copied first:

• Find the song you want to edit.
• Select and right-click the song.
• Select Duplicate Song from the drop menu.
• Select a destination database (SongShow Plus by default).
• Select Edit the song when prompted.
• Edit and save song as needed.

Hiding the stock songs is an all or nothing process. If the user wants to hide ALL of the stock songs:

• From the Media panel select the Songs tab
• From the main toolbar select Songs > Search Databases
• Un-check Stock Hymns to hide ALL included hymns. (if desired)
• Un-check Christmas Carols to hide ALL included Christmas songs. (if desired)
