Sync Error - Internal Server Error (500) - Special Characters - dash - apostrophe - quotes
Applicable SongShow Plus Versions:
This article applies to all versions of SongShow Plus 8.3 and later using SongShow Connect
* Updates correcting this issue may be available. Ensure that you are using the most current build of SongShow Plus from the Download page before proceeding. *
Symptom:
When trying to synchronize the SongShow Plus Sync files, the process fails with an Internal Server Error (500) error message. (630/1091)
Possible Cause:
This may be caused by an unsupported special character used in one or more file names in a Sync folder. This is most likely to happen when file names are copied from Word or a web page. Known unsupported special characters are the en and em dashes as well as some forms of apostrophes and quotes - it is possible there are others.
Possible Cause:
This may be caused by an unsupported file name used in one or more file names in a Sync folder. This may happen when files are copied from a source outside of SongShow Plus. File type and extension must be valid for the selected Media File path (ie Images/Video etc). Extra or invalid characters in the file extension may cause Sync issues. It is possible that this can come from media imports from sources such as the BING search.
Possible Solution:
If you encounter this error, you can look at the recently added files for names with dashes as well as some forms of apostrophes and quotes or other non-alpha-numeric characters in them. If you find these, rename the file and try the sync process again.
NOTE: Best Practices for file naming is to use no punctuation at all however it does happen. In this case the problem characters are a subset of special variations of some punctuation. It would be good to scrub your media files of any punctuation before attempting to Sync them.
If this does not resolve the issue, contact the Support Team.
