Online Services - Unable to set up accounts - comm fail

Symptom:
When trying to set up the authorization for the SongShow Plus Online Services the user receives and error indicating there is a communications failure.

SongShow Plus Online Services that may be affected include the following:

Dropbox
Google Drive
OneDrive
Planning Center Online
Shift Worship
SongSelect

Possible Cause:
On or about 10/17/2014, several vendors made breaking changes to their API interface that caused issues with the authentication connection for the SongShow Plus Online services.  These vendors were SongSelect, Planning Center Online and Shift Worship.

Possible Solution:
The breaking changes by the noted vendors required an update to SongShow Plus.  The only resolution to this issue is to update your installation of SongShow Plus to Version 8.1 with a build date of 10/21/2014 or later.

NOTE: This issue will not be corrected in builds of SongShow Plus prior to the 10/21/2014 build of Version 8.1.


Possible Cause:
If the Windows short date format is set to something other than the default M/d/yyyy format it can cause issues with the authentication connection for the SongShow Plus Online services.

Possible Solution:
Check the Windows date and time formats to ensure that they are using the default English (United States) settings.  In particular, the Short date should be set to M/d/yyyy. 

Go to Control Panel > Region and Language > Formats tab and check the settings.

NOTE: This issue was corrected in the 05/20/2014 build.

Possible Cause:
If the Windows time is incorrect by too much, it can cause issues with the authentication connection for the SongShow Plus Online services.  This could be related to an incorrect Time Zone setting or the clock being too far off (plus or minus) from the "world" time.

Possible Solution:
Check the Windows time  and time zone formats to ensure that they are using the settings for your area. You can check the world time at a variety of websites such as www.time.gov or www.timeanddate.com


Possible Cause:
If there are changes or restrictions set in the firewall that do not allow SongShow Plus to communicate with the respective services then this may prevent account creation and connection.

Possible Solution:
Check the Windows Firewall to make sure it is functioning correctly.  Users can temporarily disable the firewall to verify the function and may have to set an exception for SongShow Plus if modified settings are being used.
