A red X appears next to program items in the Program Panel
9/27/2013
Symptom:When adding items to the Program Panel or opening saved programs in the Program Panel, a red X appears next to program items in the Program Panel. This indicator can appear with any of the SSP object types.
Possible Cause:
When Adding Content To The Program Panel
The item you are adding is either not in a supported format, has been changed in some way to become unusable in the program in it's present state or SongShow Plus and/or the system are not properly configured to support the content.
When Opening Saved Programs
The program item with the red X is either no longer available at the original location or has been changed in some way to become unusable in the program in it's present state.
Background:
This display of a red X preceding the item name (replacing the present button) is due to a mechanism used to determine if content is in a usable state in a program. This is expected behavior.
This feature was added to detect items that do not load correctly when a program is loaded and give the user an indication that there is an issue before they try to present the item. Users may also see changes to the item title indicating a collection or location when the red X appears. This is also normal and may give an indication of the root of the issue.
This state can occur with any program object but is most likely to occur with items that have been moved or renamed in some way causing a content missing state. This may also occur with videos that do not load correctly due to their size or location. This is one of the reasons this feature was added.
Possible Solution:
To resolve the "red X" status there are a couple of options available in the right click menu. The user can either use the Reload option if they believe it is a temporary situation or the Replace/Relocate option if the content has been moved, renamed or deleted. In either case, the red X will go away once the discrepancy is resolved. This may reoccur on subsequent openings of programs for some content if it was not saved when replaced or the source is problematic.
Specific Causes/Solutions For Some Item Types:
Songs - A red X on a song is typically an indication that the song in the program has been deleted from the database or is corrupt in some way. Removing it from the program and re-adding from the database should solve this. You can also try selecting a different song to see if it the original content in the database.
Slideshows - A red X on a slideshow is typically an indication that the slideshow in the program has been deleted from the database, has been moved to a different folder or is corrupt in some way. Removing it from the program and re-adding from the database should solve this. You can also try selecting a different slideshow to see if it the original content in the database.
Scripture - A red X on a scripture in an existing program is typically and indication that the passage in the program was from a bible that is no longer installed/valid in SSP. Removing it from the program and re-adding from an existing bible in the database should solve this. You can also try selecting the same passage from a different bible to see if it that will resolve the issue.
Media - A red X on a media file (Audio, Image or Video) is typically an indication that the media item in the program has been deleted from the database, has been moved to a different folder or is corrupt in some way. Removing it from the program and re-adding from the database should solve this. You can also try selecting a different media item to see if it is the original content in the database that is the problem.
If the red X appears during the add process from the database it is most likely that the media file is not supported on the system. Make sure the required plug-ins and/or software are installed to support the media type you are tying to use.
PowerPoint - A red X on a PowerPoint file is typically an indication that the PowerPoint file in the program has been deleted from the database, has been moved to a different folder or is corrupt in some way. Removing it from the program and re-adding from the database should solve this. You can also try selecting a different PowerPoint file to see if it is the original content in the database that is the problem.
If the red X appears during the add process from the database it is most likely that the PowerPoint file is not supported on the system due to an improper or corrupt installation of PowerPoint. Refer to KB FAQ022 for additional details.
