Applications interfering with the proper operation of SongShow Plus

9/27/2018

We have identified applications that, when installed on a system along with SongShow Plus, may prevent SongShow Plus or SlideShow Builder from working as expected or launching at all.  They may or may not cause associated error messages, warnings or notifications.

NOTE: It is usually standard practice to disable any AV or malware software during the installation of software.  In this case, the expectation is that the software you are installing is trusted.  If that is not the case, you should scan the installation software separately before attempting the installation.

Specifically regarding SongShow Plus, this may be needed during installation or activation if warranted.

The following applications or files should be un-installed from the SongShow Plus system or modified as noted and the user should attempt to use SSP again.  Similar types of the listed software may cause issues as well but only the applications specifically tested or reported are listed here.

Constant Guard (usually ComCast ISP Customers have this)

  • This causes SSP to close when Display Properties are opened and will prevent SlideShow Builder from launching.
  • It may be possible to set exceptions in this application allowing SongShow Plus to operate normally.  If this does not work, this application should be removed.

WebRoot AV software

  • This causes some minor SSB editing issues, specifically using the Insert function to paste text into a text box.
  • There is an option called "Control Active Processes" that can be adjusted that should allow SSP/SSB to work as expected.  If this does not work then this should be removed.

AntiLogger

  • This prevents SongShow Plus from launching.
  • It may be possible to set exceptions in this application allowing SongShow Plus to operate normally.  If this does not work, this application should be removed.

avast! Anti Virus

  • This can cause some problems with installation and some functions, such as the legacy plug-ins, to stop working or fail to install.
Turning off the virus scanner temporarily to do the installation and then setting an exception in the Anti Virus software will allow Song Show Plus to function properly.
  • If a partial installation was done you will have to completely un-install Song Show Plus and then reinstall after turning off the scanner.

TrendMicro Anti Virus

  • This can cause some functions, such as the Song Importer, to stop working or fail to install.
  • Usually an exception in the Anti Virus software will allow SSP to function properly.

Norton Anti Virus

  • This can cause some functions, such as the Song Importer, to stop working or fail to install.
  • Usually an exception in the Anti Virus software will allow SSP to function properly.

McAfee Anti Virus

  • This can cause some functions, such as the Song Indexing, to re-index constantly or at incorrect times.
  • It is possible an exception in the Anti Virus software will allow SSP to function properly but removal is recommended.

Corel WinDVD 11

  • This version is not supported for SSP DVD has been reported to cause a variety of non-dvd related SSP issues.
  • This should be removed.

System Mechanic

  • This software is described as a scanner and repair software for better PC performance.
  • When installed on systems with SSP, it will prevent proper operation as well as updates and installation.
  • No setting or work around found other that removing the software completely.

If removing/adjusting the applications/files listed does not resolve the SongShow Plus issue, please contact the support team.

If you recently installed a new application that caused SongShow Plus or SlideShow Builder to stop working and it is not listed here, please contact the support team with this information.

The information here is currently a work-around for the issue and we may explore options to resolve these issues in a more permanent way if we have control over that function.  If we do not have control then it will be up to the providers to resolve the issues on their end.
