SSP Best Practices - Windows Operating System Upgrades and Updates and SongShow Plus

NOTE: While there is some effort made regarding compatibility between SongShow Plus versions, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that ALL Projection and Workstation machines have the same version of SongShow Plus installed and activated, preferably the most recent available version.
Clarification: There is a difference between Windows Upgrades and Windows Updates.
- Upgrades are when the major version of the OS is changed - i.e. upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
- Updates are when the major version of the OS is NOT changed, but components and/or applications are updated - i.e. security updates, driver updates or feature updates.
Windows Updates
As a general rule, it is a good idea to keep your SongShow Plus system as up to date as possible. Users may be concerned about Windows Updates and, from time to time, we have seen issues caused by a Windows Update though these are fairly rare.
We recommend that at minimum users keep their Windows operating system of choice up to date with the latest build available. These are usually tested more extensively and may have several important fixes included. We keep our development and test systems up to date and periodically we discover that a SongShow Plus issue is resolved simply by updating to the latest update.
You can update your Windows Operating system via the Windows Updates or visit the Microsoft Download site.
There may be Windows /SongShow Plus version specific issues and they will be noted in specific articles you can search for.
Windows Upgrades
- Backup all SSP data and copy it externally.
- Deactivate the current installation of SongShow Plus.
- Uninstall SongShow Plus.
- Ensure that all other system updates and software installations are complete.
- Install the latest build of SongShow Plus.
- Activate the current installation of SongShow Plus.
- Restore all SSP data from your external source.
