Slide Show on the Run

This summer, I was asked to be the tech guy for my sons' boys camp -- third year in a row now for that task. One my responsibilities was to prepare a daily slide show of the activities of that day. The goal with this slide show is to get as many kids as possible included, so I place an emphasis on quantity over quality. I set my camera in either auto mode or sports mode, and in a few cases cases aperture priority mode. Auto-focus is a must. Then I take a lot of pictures, usually several hundred each day.

There is not much time to make the slide shows. Fortunately, the Photo Slides Builder feature in SongShow Plus helps with this process. When I'm ready to make the slide show, I simply import all pictures into a new slide show from the SD card. This quickly creates a large slide show. I then go through and delete any slides that are obviously bad, uninteresting, or redundant.

I then set the slides to show for 2.5 - 3 seconds, and set a random transition to .25 seconds. This keeps the show moving along at a quick pace.

It was actually through doing something like this a few years ago that lead me to make an important modification to how images were handled in slide shows. In earlier versions of SongShow Plus, a photo slide show worked fine with a few dozen images, but for a slide show containing hundreds of images, the system ran out of memory. Changes were made and now slide shows like this can be build within minutes using SongShow Plus.
