Feature Preview: Unicode Support

5/31/2011  < Previous  Next >

The March 2011 Edition of SongShow Plus (which just entered the beta test phase today) includes the much anticipated support of the Unicode character set. Those of you who are working with characters outside of the ISO Basic Latin Alphabet can finally have access to the wide range of characters provided in Unicode.

Along with this is some additional support for non-English languages. This comes primarily in the area of additional spell-check dictionaries. It is also expected that sorting will work as expected for non-English languages (but this is still under investigation).

It is important to understand that Unicode support is not equal to multi-language support. Unicode is simply a character set. Supporting languages adds to that an understanding of semantics, grammar, punctuation, etc. Our focus this time around is on Unicode, and multi-language where practical.

For what its worth, however, this edition does include an Australian English spell check dictionary.

I don't know. Our focus is on the Unicode character set rather than the older double-byte character set (DBCS).
