Service elements for programs

10/13/2007  < Previous  Next >

The October 2007 edition adds the capability to easily add service elements to your program.

This capability was available to you before by inserting a Break then assigning it the text title of the service element. Now, however, you can select a service element through a pop-up menu and the text is automatically filled in for you.

You're also not restricted to the service elements that are part of the default installation of SSP, you can add and remove your own as you need.

This looks useful.

And I'm very glad you let us edit the list of service elements. The list I would (will?) be using for our annual general conference sessions is very different from what a normal church service might need.

Is there a limit to the number of elements that can be added?

There is no practical limit.

I can't seem to locate this feature in my SSP7 Pro. I see the insert break and I can insert a generic title but I do not see pre-labelled service titles as shown on your blog. Please help.

I have SSP 7 Pro I am able to insert a break however I do not have the pre-program service element labels. It does not appear when I right-click on a program item I only see the Insert Break and must type in my own label. Please advise.
Thank you.

Are you working with the current production release or the beta?

This is a feature of the new beta, not in the production release yet.

This is a nice addition -- it adds some clarity to the program structure. I presently do that using breaks with comments in a blank program template. This is much slicker and I especially like the fact that you can customize the elements.

A few days ago I commented about the lack tutorials on some subjects. Do you, or will you plan to, put all these "feature previews" into the tutorials and/or users guide?

The plan is to update the user guide to reflect the recent changes. It may not, however, be as detailed as the blogs have been. Also, I'm preparing a respone to the other post you mentioned -- there are some interesting ideas regarding user documentation that deserve discussion.

Considing all the great amount of information that you all put out on this site as Feature Previews and other descriptions as well as all the help provided by knowlegable users, there is a wealth of material for tutorials and user guide.
I don't know of another major program where the developers are so responsive to user's needs, desires, thoughts, and suggestions. Thanks ...  all of you take Thanksgiving off

I wanted to come back to this and say I really like this feature, now that we are using it in production.

If you have a large program, it can really help you find items quicker and keep you on track better.
