Had not realized this about Stage Monitor, but here's what I've observed. We have deliberately split into multiple slices the verses of many of our songs. Stage Monitor appears to display the whole verse, ignoring those splits entirely. Is there any way to change that behavior?

Yes - The Stage Display, like all the other Displays, has its own Slide Properties settings.  You should be able to replicate the same settings that you have set up for your primary display on to your Stage Display.  Using the Copy/Paste options in Slide Properties should help with this.
