Previously present Media files are missing from SongShow Plus after an update - indexer issue re-index

4/25/2024

Applicable SongShow Plus Versions:
This article applies to SongShow Plus Version 9.3

 * Updates correcting this issue may be available. Ensure that you are using the most current build of SongShow Plus from the Download page before proceeding. *

Symptom:
After updating SongShow Plus, it was discovered that some media files that showed up in the previous installation no longer appear after the update. (1165, 1166)

Possible Cause:
There was a bug in an earlier version of SongShow Plus 9.3 that removed several uncommon media extensions.  This bug was corrected in the 7/21 build of SongShow Plus 9.3.

Possible Solution:
Download and update 9.3 to the latest build to resolve the issue.

Possible Cause:
The new indexing process may not be catching newly removed, changed, added or moved content.  This may be more likely after bulk additions/deletions of media or extensive housekeeping operations were folder or files were removed, changed, added or moved.

Possible Solution:
Rebuild the SongShow Plus indexes.  There are two steps needed to accomplish this.  Enabling the Indexer Settings, then initializing a reindex of the SongShow Plus database.

 Enabling the Indexer Settings

  1. Close SongShow Plus.
  2. From the Windows Start menu select Programs > SongShow Plus 9.3 > Configuration. (You will need admin rights for this operation)
  3. Locate Indexer Settings and click the link.
  4. Scroll down and locate the Show Indexer Menu Item option.
  5. Select the Yes option.
  6. Click Save to store settings and close. Elevate as needed to complete.

Reindex the SongShow Plus database

  1. Launch SongShow Plus.
  2. From the main toolbar select Tools > Show Indexer.
  3. The Indexer should open.  Check the taskbar for icon.
  4. Locate the View option for the Indexer panel and make sure it is selected for Current Processes.
  5. Click the Rebuild All Indexes button to start the process. Several items will appear in the Current Processes pane.
  6. Wait until the Current Processes pane is clear again.
  7. Close then re-open SongShow Plus and verify that all files are present as expected.  If they are not, contact the Support Team.

This is under further investigation.

Possible Cause:
The new indexing process may be skipping or incorrectly processing certain file types. Errors like "Exception offset and size are invalid" or "update failed: Exception Read only read 7 of 8 bytes".

Possible Solution:
Try the reindexing operation noted above.

If this persists, the Legacy Indexer could be used. Please contact the support team before proceeding with changes.
