Using the Messaging options in the Improv Panel

11/28/2011

This is a quick primer on the use of the Messaging options found in the Improv Panel for SongShow Plus.

The user has the option of adding their own free form text, selecting one of the date/time options available from the Insert drop menu or using them both in combination.  A list of presented messages is stored for later use and the Show and Hide buttons control when a message is displayed.

For the Message Improv tabs (Instant and Stage), there are 3 tabs in the settings; Placement, Text and Container.

Placement
The Placement tab sets the position and size of the container (text area) with the Left and Top settings controlling the position and the Width and Height settings controlling the size.  The position is set relative to the upper left corner of the text container.  The lower the percentage is set in the Left and Top sliders, the closer it is placed to the left and top of the display screen.  The Width and Height settings are also relative to the upper left corner of the text container and are a percentage of the display screen.
The easiest way to see where this is while editing is to set a solid color background in the Container tab, which will be addressed in more detail later.  Once you have the size and position set as desired, the background can be changed as desired.

Text
The Text tab uses percentage sliders similar to those found in the Placement tab.  In this case, these are set relative to the overall size of the container created with the Placement settings.
The Text tab sets the position and size of the text with the Left and Top settings controlling the position and the Width and Height settings controlling the size.  The position is set relative to the upper left corner of the text.  The lower the percentage is set in the Left and Top sliders, the closer the text is placed to the left and top of the container.  The Width and Height settings are also relative to the upper left corner of the text and are a percentage of the container area.  There are several other settings available in the Text tab that are self explanatory and are only relative to the text inside the container.

Container
The Container tab allows for the setting of backgrounds to the designated container area.  The options here are similar to background display properties found elsewhere in SongShow Plus.   The images, videos and colors that are available elsewhere in SongShow Plus are available here and the Opacity is adjustable.
